1. Background
CorpsAfrica provides the opportunity for young Africans to have a transformative experience, to be a part of the development process in their countries, and to find their place in today’s world. Along the lines of the Peace Corps model, Volunteers undergo a rigorous training program and then live for up to one year in rural, high-poverty communities to facilitate small-scale, high-impact projects through Community-led Development (CLD). Over the last decade, Corps Africa has steadily expanded operations from Morocco to Senegal, Malawi, Rwanda, Ghana, Kenya, Uganda, The Gambia, and Ethiopia. This process is driven by emerging funding opportunities and the organization’s commitment to think boldly and address key strategic questions to position itself for its next phase of growth and impact.
CorpsAfrica seeks to engage a qualified consultant to facilitate a participatory and inclusive strategic revision process. This process will involve stakeholders across the organization and result in an actionable, high-quality strategic plan that advances CorpsAfrica’s vision, mission, and relevance in the African context.
2. Scope of Work
- Conduct a review of:
- CorpsAfrica’s current strategic plan and progress dashboard
- Internal monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) reports
- Emerging global and sector trends relevant to CorpsAfrica’s mission
- Internal strategic resource materials from the last two years
- Conduct individual interviews with senior leadership
- Facilitate and analyze feedback from the following focus groups:
- Three (3) with select current Volunteers
- Three (3) with select CorpsAfrica Alumni
- Two (2) with select Country Office staff
- Two (2) with Country Directors
- One (1) with the Senior Leadership Team
- One (1) with Board members
- Design and facilitate a strategic planning workshop, including follow-up consultations as needed
- Draft the revised strategic plan document, outlining updated strategic goals, objectives, and targets, with alignment to three potential budget scenarios.
- Provide an assessment of the funding landscape for international non-profits.
3. Deliverables
- Inception report and updated work plan
- Focus groups summary report
- Design and facilitation of strategic planning workshop
- Mid-process Progress Report with initial proposed goals, objectives and targets (August 8, 2025)
- Draft revised strategic plan, including Theory of Change for stakeholder feedback
- Final revised strategic plan
- Assessment report on the funding landscape for international non-profits
4. Timeline
The consultancy is expected to be completed within three months with a start date of June 15th and ideally includes attendance at an all-organizational event in Nairobi the week of June 15, 2025.5. Consultant Qualifications
- Proven experience leading strategic planning processes with NGOs operating in Africa
- Strong facilitation and stakeholder engagement expertise
Demonstrated experience in incorporating feedback from field-based teams and country offices - Familiarity with Theory of Change methodologies and participatory MEL design
- Excellent writing and communication skills in English, French communication skills preferred
